Camps, swim, fish, walk the beach or have
a picnic. You can do it all at Holland State
Park located on Lake Michigan in Park Township, a
short drive from downtown Holland. The park has acres
of rolling sand dunes and sugar-sand beaches along
Lake Michigan. The Holland State Park has nearly 400
wooded campsites including “beachside camping”
next to Lake Michigan. |

| Named
after a tunnel built into a 100-foot-high sand dune
that takes visitors to the Lake Michigan shoreline,
Tunnel Park is one of the loveliest parks along the
lakeshore. The 22-acre park offers 1,000 feet of sandy
beach on Lake Michigan as well as trails and observation
points through the parks majestic dunes. |

The park also
has picnic pavilions, volleyball courts, playground
equipment and plenty of room to toss a frisbee, play touch
football or a game of baseball. The park is open daily from

The
Lake that Isn’t: Lake Macatawa, which
sits in the middle of the Holland Michigan, metropolitan
region is not a lake at all but the sunken river basin
of the Macatawa River. Despite this difference, it
is difficult to convince swimmers, boaters, water
skiers, fisherman and other water enthusiasts that
Lake Macatawa isn’t a lake. It sure acts like
one. |

A jewell in the center of downtown Holland
Michigan , Centennial Park is one of the
main flower attractions during the city’s annual
May Tulip Time Festival, offering up a view of more
than 10,000 blooming tulips along the park’s
crisscrossed walkways. At the center of the park is
a 20-foot tall, ivy and moss-covered fountain that
spills to a large goldfish pond at the base. |

Centennial
Park in Holland is the home of the city’s summer
concert series on the lawn surrounding the Centennial Gazebo
as well as a half-dozen art fairs, craft shows and markets
throughout the year. While you are at Centennial Park look
for the 9-foot tall bronze statue of Holland’s founder

The
beauty of nature abounds year-round at the
DeGraaf Nature Center in Holland. Visit and explore
the 18 acres of woodlands, marshes, ponds and trails
of this acclaimed nature preserve. The DeGraaf Nature
Center offers unique outdoor education programs for
young and old alike including nature displays and information
at its Brower Interpretive Center. Open Tuesday through
Saturday 9 a,.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.

the lake from Kollen Park is Howard B. Dunton Park,
where you can launch your boat, fish from the pier,
hold family picnics in the covered pavilion or just
take a relaxing walk through the nature trails of this

Kollen Park on Lake Macatawa is one of the
area’s most beautiful recreational parks offering
lakeside tables and benches, boat ramps, fishing piers,
picnic tables, slides and swings for the old and young
on 25 acres of land along Lake Macatawa. The park has
a band shell for concerts and is the home to the Queretaro
Fountain, a stone fountain given to Holland by its sister
city Queretaro, Mexico. |

currently is in the midst of a $5 million renovation
that will include a new boardwalk along the southshore of

Park |

at Holland city’s Lincoln Avenue Skate
Park. The city park has been designed with skate enthusiasts
in mind and includes ramps, half-pipes, obstacles
and jumps for those who like their fun edgy.

| Matt Urban Sports
and Recreation Complex |

on Holland’s south side, the 23-acre
Matt Urban complex includes four lighted ball diamonds,
a lighted soccer field, two lighted basketball courts,
picnic grounds and two playgrounds. Named after Holland
World War II veteran Matt Urban for his work in Michigan
baseball and raising funds for the sports complex, this
is one of five all-sports complexes in the Holland-Zeeland

One
of the best recreational parks in the city,
Smallenburg Park focuses on active fun from its baseball,
football and soccer fields to a large playground area
for the kids. Holland City’s municipal swimming
pool is also located at the park as well as the Holland
Municipal Stadium where both Hope College and the Holland

The
DeZwaan Windmill is the center of attraction
for Windmill Island. Towering 120 feet over the 40-acre
Windmill Island Park, the 240-year-old windmill is the
only authentic Netherlands windmill in the United States.
The city-owned island park attracts thousands of tourists
annually to the windmill and recreated Dutch settlement
there. Windmill Island offers an event center that is
available for weddings, parties and social gatherings.

| Nestled
on the north side of downtown Holland, Window
on the Waterfront Park overlooks Lake Macatawa and Windmill
Island. The park offers paved bike and rollerblading
paths and walking trails through groves of trees at
the water’s edge. There’s plenty of lookout
points to stop and sit to take in nature. |

In May, during
the Tulip Time Festival, the park is a dazzle of
color with the blooming of thousands of tulips of every hue
and shade. An early morning visit to Window on the Waterfront
Park to watch the sun rise will start the day off right.

Crossing is huge with 239 acres and over 6
miles of of scenic trails along pigeon river. Great

Santuary Woods Preserve is a beautiful hike

original home and farm of Holland founder Albertus
Van Raalte, the park is maintained as a nature park
and recreation area. Both a Michigan and U.S. historical
site, the 160-acre Van Raalte Farm on the city’s
east side includes a house, barn and outbuildings built
shortly after the American Civil War. |

| The park features
3 1/2 miles of walking trails through woods, fields and natural
settings and is a favorite spot for hikers and cross country
skiers. The sledding hill on the farm is one of the most popular
winter sledding and tobogganing sites in the winter. Location:
